As with normal beds, adjustable beds are available in various sizes; single, double, queen and king. Various lengths are also available. Each manufacturer will offer their own sizes - so make sure the size suits you and your bedroom. If you currently have a single, double, queen etc you can assume a same size in adjustable form will fit.
Levels of adjust-ability - what moves?
Most adjustable beds have two main moving parts. Firstly the head section which is the top portion of the bed can be raised and lowered. Second, the leg section which is th lower portion of the bed can be raised and lowered. The majority of adjustable beds come with both moving parts, but check before buying. Double beds are available so the two half work independently of each other.
There are three main types of mattresses:
- Pocket sprung - coiled springs within the mattress usually available in different levels of firmness.
- Memory foam - molds round your body, and can be temperature sensitive to keep you cool
- Reflex - foam based which follows the contours of the bed, and helps relieve pressure on the body.
Most adjustable beds are operated by a remote control. They contain motors which move the bed into position. These motor are run by electricity to make sure a plug socket is nearby.
